Batik is Bengal’s very own special type of resist-dyeing technique. Under this technique, parts of plain cloth are covered by wax and then the cloth is dyed. The cloth is later boiled to remove the wax. The areas covered by wax retain their original color and creating beautiful designs. These designs can not be recreated exactly thus making each piece unique in its own way.
Kantha work ,which is Bengal famous for, is a type of embroidery work where different types of stitches are used to tell a tale or to paint a scenario of nature, flowers or other things.
Here is a beautiful amalgamation of these two handcrafts.
whole body of the saree has batik print done on it and the pallu ,pleates and some patches have kantha work done on it.
